Happy DEADvent! On this auspicious Friday the 13th, thirteen days of terror can commence!
Sadie was excited to open the first gift. This is a loose present on top of the calendar, which is a fun way to start, though she and I could both see the bigger present at the finale. I think having the first present smaller and wrapped in tissue worked well to have it as a "lower-grade" counterpart to the big finale present on top. This one should be nice. It has a cryptic phrase upon it...
Under the paper is a cardboard box...
and inside that, nested in tissue....
...is a Living Dead Dolls Mini--Marley's Ghost!
This is LDD's adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens character from A Christmas Carol, adapted only within the LDD Minis line. Marley was not my plan for the day-1 gift, but considering no other viable candidates I had ordered arrived before this morning, I grabbed the best option of the items I did have already. After all, Marley is indeed dead to begin with, and is the first named character in A Christmas Carol's text. I think this made sense. Thank you, Dickens, for writing that first sentence the way you did. You saved my calendar!
This also allowed me to tie the bow on Marley's box in a way to match the cadaver's kerchief on the character's head.
We'll hold off on a review of Marley just yet, because you can probably guess just from the doll being part of A Christmas Carol that there's a full set in the making. Once they're all assembled, the deeper dive can be made. I also haven't used pronouns for Marley in this post because that was a little unclear for me, and I'll outline my thought process and conclusion on that later.
Sadie seems pretty happy. An LDD Mini is a very good Advent gift.
Tomorrow, we hit the drawers in the big chest! See you then.
Off to an excellent and very seasonal start!
