A Deathday Party Celebration (LDD Roundup #10)

It's my birthday time, and I wanted to put on a little production for it since I had so much fun pushing out Christmas spirit this past December. My actual birthday was on the 20th, but the logistics of one doll arriving led me to allow this project to be flexible on time, and then I took some extra work hours during the week that also got in the way, so it happened later. I'm fine with it; I just really wanted the time to set up and enjoy this. This was intended to be LDD Roundup 11 because I had 10 all purchased and ready to put out before this one, but delays ended up making this one Roundup 10 instead, despite most of the dolls joining my collection after the dolls that will be in Roundup 11. Oh, well. It certainly fits the milestone number better for this to be a big event!

Living Dead Dolls Roundup 9

This roundup was meant to be completed much much earlier, well within January, but one of the dolls got caught in limbo and then completely fell through thanks to a bafflingly unresponsive seller who ultimately just refunded after I pulled teeth to establish any communication in good faith and got a confusing response of the item not being shipped and the seller being new to this? I don't know if they were somebody truly in over their head who crumbled and got cold feet on it for some reason (were they a minor?) or if they were a scammer who fell apart in the face of my persistence.  Honestly, whatever. That was agonizing regardless. So it happens that that doll is not in this group and will probably not be acquired anytime soon now that another one fell perfectly into place to complete the group. The doll I picked first wasn't notable enough to give a solo post, nor precious enough to demand immediate closure after the collapse of the purchase, and I don't want to work on building further assorted roundups when the second uncomfortable roundup and some February/March projects need to get sorted. 

Ugh. May I never be screwed over in my planning like this again. But the final trio actually worked out far better than I could have hoped.

Welcome to the last standard LDD Roundup for a little bit. LDD content is not slowing down a bit on the blog, but this review format will be on pause in October, replaced by a Living Dead Dolloween extravaganza instead, where I will examine pieces of the Halloween-themed releases in the brand across the original era--smaller roundups per post, but a great number of dolls in total! The next time you'd be seeing an assorted roundup of three again will be November, and no plans at all for who would be included. I also have a couple of solo reviews besides. But enough about those--let's look at now and the September trio of cadavers that entered my morgue.

Living Dead Dolls Roundup 6

For a moment, due to the gritty, ugly first doll in this group, I was considering throwing together a dedicated "scary roundup" for a theme, but I found the concept a little too nebulous and my collecting budget for the month was pushed heavily toward building my Halloween pool of LDD posts in October (where I made great progress!) so I decided to just go for another assorted pool. I did, however, end up with two significant wishlist dolls!

LDD Roundup 3 was unthemed but had the commonality factor of all of its dolls being boys. Here, LDD Roundup 5 has the commonality factor of everybody being a fair-haired scare! All three of these dolls have a blonde or light hair color!

Consider this my July LDD roundup, since this was mostly done and all purchased during July. August should have its own dedicated roundup as well.

MARATHON/MEGA-ROUNDUP Recut Compilation: The Living Dead Dolls Series 23 Project

This is just my previous seven S23 posts all edited together into one long saga with tweaks in prose for flow, and some changes influenced by hindsight coming in. This cut of the project, as a linear marathon, will not be the journey through months of discoveries that the original posts were, so part of this is written with a retrospective lens, as if I had written these reviews and published them all in one go rather than doing them gradually first. If you're curious, take a look at how that's shifted things, because I found it interesting to edit myself. But that's really all there is to this one, so feel no obligation to read again in this form. Just wanted to have the work available in one.

Living Dead Dolls Workshop Roundup

Here's my current policy--if a Living Dead Doll is loose and incomplete, its chances of being completed again are next to nil because loose parts for LDD are so rare on the aftermarket...so loose dolls missing things are fair game for customizing. I had a pressing need to take advantage of that policy, and I went on quite a journey with some other fun projects as a result!

This will be the LDD Roundup for July, because the next trio of dolls I want to round up will require location-specific photos taken on vacation in early August for full project completion. Quack and a standalone doll will feature this month and this is a roundup, but I'm not listing this in the series of canonical doll roundups.

Gruesome Living Dead Dolls Roundup (Roundup #4)

Recently, I've been finding myself a bit more willing to bite on LDD entries which I'd previously written off for being too grotesque or gory or shocking. This is generally a bad thing for my already-long wishlist, but I'm more open to explore some more extreme or gross dolls if I think the design has some overall appeal in spite of (or possibly even because of) the nasty parts. There are still some dolls which I put a "no" on for being objectionable to me personally, but the presence of icky stuff is less of a deterrent now. Of course, though, I keep warnings for this stuff, and if gory LDD content can stand alone, then the whole post gets warned. That's what's happening here--a roundup of three dolls that are more hardcore than what I focus on normally. Proceed with caution.

Living Dead Dolls Roundup 2

Time for another LDD roundup...at last! (These are never going to be finished as quickly as I want, are they?) Fortunately, at the start of May, I was finally able to order the last doll I needed to make this a proper roundup of three. I think three dolls (or to stretch things sometimes, three characters) will generally be the size I stick with for these roundup posts. 

This roundup will be long despite the pool being no larger than the group in my previous LDD roundup. Each of these dolls got me more involved and hands-on re: the creative side of things with extravagant photo staging requiring more elaborate props or extended diorama crafting setup, and I made a really outsized number of art pictures here (which I also think include some of my strongest). I think it was all worth it, though, and three is three. I wasn't publishing this at just two dolls. Let's begin!

Living Dead Dolls Roundup 1

While LDD special topics will continue to receive their own posts, there are several LDDs I'm going to try to collect over time that aren't connected to each other and/or don't warrant a full standalone post, so I'm going to be doing roundups to update on more miscellaneous acquisitions. The way I see it, LDD is special enough for me to document every doll I get on the blog here, but not enough for every doll to take up a post for itself. These dolls can be complete releases, or even, perhaps, incomplete miscellaneous Living Dead Dolls I decided to adopt just because they had something I liked that didn't require the whole package. So here's my first roundup. 

I would say this post is pretty safe as LDD goes. There's some scary (gore-free) imagery with the first doll, but nothing I would call truly distressing.
